Chanukah Songs

See all the lyrics to the songs your kids have been working on for Chanukah and sing along at home! Also see the list of PJ Library Books we’ve been singing/reading at the bottom of this page.

“Dancing Candles” by Carla Friend

Dancing candles, dancing through the night
Dancing candles, oh they shine so bright!
Dancing candles, what a pretty sight!
A delight for Chanukah tonight.

(Additional verses include blowing candles, melting candles, and/or anything at all!)

“There is a Light in Me” by Carla Friend

There is a light in me (there is a light in me)
There is a light in you (there is a light in you)
And it will guide the way (and it will guide the way)
In everything you do (in everything you do)
So let us all join hands (so let us all join hands)
And venture through the dark (and venture through the dark)
‘Cause when you search your soul
You find that inner spark!

“The Dreidel Song” (adapted)

I have a little dreidel,
I made it out of clay.
And when it’s dry and ready,
Oh, dreidel, I shall play!

Oh dreidel, dreidel, dreidel,
I made it out of clay.
And when it’s dry and ready,
Oh, dreidel, I shall play!

Additional verses:
I have a little dreidel, I made it out of bread.
I did not spin my dreidel, I ate it all instead…

I have a little dreidel, I made it out of sand.
And when I tried to spin it, it crumbled in my hand…

I have a little dreidel, I made it out of ants.
And when I tried to spin it, it crawled right up my pants…

(Come up with your own verses!)

“The Chanukah Train” by Carla Friend

All aboard (choo choo), the Chanukah train!
All aboard (choo choo), the Chanukah train!
With our instruments we will entertain,
All aboard the Chanukah train!

There are tambourines on the Chanukah train,
Jingle Bells on the Chanukah train,
Maracas on the Chanukah train,
All aboard the Chanukah train!

All aboard (choo choo), the Chanukah train!
All aboard (choo choo), the Chanukah train!
With our instruments we will entertain,
All aboard the Chanukah train!

(Additional verses with more instruments, people’s names, Chanukah objects, etc.)

“Chanukah Shoes” by Carla Friend

Chanukah shoes, chanukah shoes,
You never know what those shoes will do!
Chanukah shoes, chanukah shoes,
You never know what those shoes will do!

Sometimes they jump, sometimes they jump
Jump jump jump, jump jump jump, jump jump jump
And then sometimes they STOP!

Chanukah shoes, chanukah shoes,
You never know what those shoes will do!
Chanukah shoes, chanukah shoes,
You never know what those shoes will do!

Sometimes they (march, fly, dance, tiptoe, wiggle)..etc.

“The Chanukiah (How Many Candles)” by Fran Avni

How many candles, how many candles,
How many candles do we light?
On our chanukiah, on our chanukiah,
The first Chanukah night?

ONE! ONE! ONE ONE ONE ONE!
One candle burning, one candle burning
The first Chanukah night

..etc.

“Chanukah, Oh Chanukah” (folk song)

Chanukah, oh Chanukah,
Come light the menorah.
Let’s have a party,
We’ll all dance the hora.
Gather round the table, we’ll give you a treat;
Sevivon to play with and lakes to eat!

And while we are playing
The candles are burning low.
One for each night they shed a sweet light
To remind us of days long ago.
One for each night they shed a sweet light
To remind us of days long ago.

“Chanukah, Chanukah” (folk song)

Chanukah, Chanukah,
Chag yafeh kol kach
Or chaviv, misaviv,
Gil leyeled rach.

Chanukah, Chanukah,
Sevivon sov sov
Sov sov sov, sov sov sov,
Mah na’im vatov.

Chanukah, Chanukah,
Festival of lights.
Candles glow in a row
Seven days, eight nights.

Chanukah, Chanukah
Watch the dreidel spin
Round and round, round and round,
Everyone join in!
